“Nous venons de subir en art une très grande période d’égarement…
Les artistes ayant perdu tout de leur sauvagerie, n’ayant plus d’instinct, on pourrait dire d’imagination, se sont égarés dans tous les sentiers…”(13)

(Art has just undergone a very large period of bewilderment… Artists having lost all their savagery, having no more instinct, we could dare say imagination, have gone astray in all directions…)

(English translation)
GAUGUIN AND THEN THE INTERIOR VOICE AND THE THREE NARRATORS: Art has just undergone a very large period of bewilderment caused by Physics, Mechanical Chemistry and the Study of Nature. Artists having lost all their savagery, having no more instinct, we could dare say imagination, have gone astray in all directions in order to find productive elements they did not have the power to create, and therefore, they do not act but in disorganized crowds, feeling fearful, as if lost, when they are all alone. All I have learnt from others hindered me.
