By means of line and colour arrangements, under the pretext of an ordinary subject borrowed from life or nature, I obtain symphonies, harmonies representing nothing absolutely real, expressing no idea directly, but which are meant to make people think the way music does, without the support of ideas or images, simply by mysterious affinities between our brains and such or such arrangements of lines and colours.
